The Brewery

Welcome to The Tillingbourne Brewery

Situated at Old Scotland Farm, Shere, the Brewery is nestled on the Albury Estate and takes its name from the short river (just 11 miles long) which starts as a spring on Leith Hill and meanders through the heart of the Surrey Hills and its villages.

The Brewery has a 17 barrel capacity (68 casks) and we are currently producing around 136 casks per month. Our first regular beer “Falls Gold” has proven to be very popular and it can be found in approximately 25 local pubs now. Our next regular beer “Spring Ale” will be available for the May Bank Holiday and although it only has an ABV of 3.6, it willbe big on flavour.

Our Story

When the Brewery equipment housed at Old Scotland Farm came up for sale in July 2011, it proved the perfect opportunity for chief brewer Steve to fulfil his life long dream of owning his own Brewery.

In a partnership with an old school friend Lee, the purchase was complete by September 2011 and there started the major task of cleaning, decorating and upgrading the Brewery.

On the 19th November 2011, the first Tillingbourne brew was finally underway. With over 15 years brewing experience, moving from brewing 120 pints for private consumption to nearly 5000 pints commercially was always going to be a challenge. But under Steve’s strict quality control, we did it– and on the first brew too!

Determined to stick to our stringent commitment to produce the finest quality beer for the local area, we will only be supplying to a limited number of carefully chosen pubs. This is to ensure that we can always guarantee supply and look after our loyal local supporters – trade and retail.

Look out for our news on the CAMRA site and in the local press and magazines as the Brewery grows and word spreads

Local Area

The Tillingbourne valley is in the heart of the Surrey Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Tillingbourne itself has a wealth of history associated with it and became particularly important in the 16th and 17th centuries when it powered the gunpowder mills in the area, the remains of which can still be seen today. Within just a few minutes from the Brewery you can access many local attractions.
